Respiratory Public Outpatient Clinic:

The Griffith Respiratory Public Outpatient Clinic has held 15 clinics over the last 12 months with a further ten clinics scheduled to the end of 2025 supporting respiratory patients with complexities, comorbidities, frequent ED presentations or admissions to hospital. Access to this service is by directly referring GPs, hospital medical officers and visiting medical physicians.

Patients have reported very positive experiences with how our health professionals explain things in a way they understand and provide clear explanation of the next steps they need to take following their appointment.

Heart Failure Public Outpatient Clinic:

In May 2025, Griffith Base Hospital trialled their first Heart Failure Public Outpatient Clinic. The clinic's focus is to support people who have frequently presented to Griffith Base Hospital ED or been admitted with complexities with heart failure, with a goal to keep these people healthier at home for longer and to reduce presentations to hospital over our winter period. At this early trial stage, referrals are from Griffith Base Hospital only.

Outreach Respiratory Clinics

This year, we are trialling an expansion of the successful Outreach Heart Failure Diagnostic Clinics, into Outreach Respiratory Clinics across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

This year, we are trialling an expansion of the successful Outreach Heart Failure Diagnostic Clinics, into Outreach Respiratory Clinics across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

These clinics are designed to support patients who have been diagnosed with, or are at risk of developing, respiratory conditions. The focus is on individuals with complex medical needs, multiple comorbidities, and/or those who experience frequent hospital admissions due to respiratory illness.

The Outreach model aims to improve access to specialist respiratory care in rural and remote communities, ensuring early intervention, coordinated care, and reduced hospital burden through comprehensive, locally delivered services.

So far, six regional clinics have already been conducted, treating over 40 rural and remote patients closer to home. Planning for additional outreach respiratory clinics is underway and we look forward to bringing the dream of equitable healthcare in rural locations that much closer.
