Project Focus: Living Well team leading the way in clinical training
The hard work of The Living Well team and Training Services NSW in developing two new niche training programs to support healthcare provision has paid off with a $100,000 investment to see the programs piloted across the Murrumbidgee PHN.
Representing a first of its kind in NSW, the Statement of Attainment programs were developed through an in-depth co-design process with more than 200 primary healthcare practices, clinicians and staff of the MPHN and community members. During months of stakeholder consultation, the Living Well team identified skills gaps with non-clinical staff that will be addressed through this pilot. The opportunity to upskill will not only ensure individuals can work at the top of their scope but also help keep primary healthcare staff engaged to counter workforce shortages.
The Statement of Attainment in Clinical Management (Apply Digital and Customer Centric Support in Primary Health Clinics) is for Practice Managers from clinical backgrounds to upskill in digital and project work to better support community care and staff succession planning.
The Statement of Attainment in Clinical Support (Apply Digital and Customer Centric Support in Primary Health Clinics) is for Practice staff from non-clinical backgrounds to upskill in basic clinical skills to support local aged and disability care patients and ease pressure on overwhelmed clinical staff.
The training opportunities are available to staff who participated in the Living Well, Your Way General Practice Winter Strategy and include both face-to-face and online delivery by UNE Partnerships. Offered under the JobTrainer initiative, the course is fee-free and fully funded by the NSW and Commonwealth governments. Launching in December, study in the pilot program must be completed by 30 June 2023. If successful, the training may be rolled out to other health districts in future.
